Annual Development Report

I was tasked with summarizing the development that occurred across the town in fiscal year 2022 (July 1 – June 30). This included a summary of the monthly development reports with additional economic and demographic information from across the town.

Town Code Revision – Solar

I was tasked with researching and developing zoning code for solar farms and utility battery storage. In coordination with my supervisor and Town Attorney this revision was taken to the Town Council and is found in the current town code in 17-6-11. I wrote the associated staff report and presented the proposal to the 5 member planning commission for recommendation to the Town Council.

Monthly Development Report

At the beginning of every month I was tasked with updating the development report that was then given to leadership and Town Council. During my time with this assignment I update the design and layout to make it more user friendly and understandable.

GIS Projects

Spatial Disparities Surrounding South Mountain Park, AZ

In spring of 2021 I enrolled in GIS for Planner. For the final project I decided to analyze the social disparities that occur around South Mountain Parkin Phoenix, AZ. Research has shown that living closer to a park increases standard of living and the further one is located from a park the more likely they are to have lower incomes and lower home values. In this project I test to see if this holds true for what is claimed as the nations largest municipal park.

Housing Analysis of Eagar & Springerville, AZ

In a group of students we analyzed the housing profile of Eagar and Springerville to create a peer community analysis for Clarksdale, AZ.

Written Projects

Climate Justice in Cochise County, AZ

While climate change will have a large impact on everyone, people located in the U.S. Southwest will likely be disproportionately impacted and then overlooked for climate mitigation strategies. Cochise County is located in South East Arizona is one of these locations that will see large impacts from rising global temperatures will little recognition from the national or international community.

Poverty and Transportation

The U.S. has become a automobile centric nation. While this has large implications on many aspects of life, it also creates larger inequalities for poor communities. Many jobs require reliable access to transportation but owning a personal vehicle can be expensive and often unattainable for many people.

Mariposa Port of Entry Case Study

The new Mariposa Port of Entry, on the border of Nogales Mexico and Arizona was started in 2007. The project incorporated many basic ideas of sustainability and water management but still provided function as a border port of entry. This case study was completed to showcase the green infrastructure and water wise practices that are occurring in the Ambos Nogales region, and to provide an example of good practice. I was able to interview the lead landscape architect to learn more about the project and his view of how water wise practices can better be implemented in the desert.

Belmont Project – Smart Water Management

In the Spring of 2021 I participated in an interdisciplinary workshop course that was focused on the development of a master planned Smart Sustainability community west of Phoenix, AZ. My group was focused on sustainable water management and green infrastructure systems. Given the location of the development, water management and usage are important aspect that need to be considered through all aspects of the project. The developers of the site had obtained the legal required minimum of water for site development, however, they wanted to have a long range plan for water management that if possible only used the obtained water rights in emergency situations.
